The racecourse of Kincsem Park, opened in 1925, is to be found 7 kilometres east of Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. The right handed oval grass track has a perimeter of 10 furlongs, together with a 1300 metre sprint track. On the inside is a sand surface enabling trotting races and greyhound races to be staged. The track is named after the famous European racehorse Kincsem, hosting racing from April through to October. Its principal races are the Magyar Derby in July, the Magyar St. Leger and Magyar Kanca Prix. The inaugural running of the Magyar Derby over 2400 metres took place on 29th June 1921, resulting in a win for Vatinius ridden by Geza Nagy. The tracks feature races for harness racing enthusiasts are the Majusi Grand Prix, the Kanca Prix and the Marshall Jozsef Memorial Race. |
